“Big Mask on Campus” Contest Celebrates Students
Penn State Housing and Food Services at the commonwealth campuses held a special event in October to thank students for pulling together during the COVID-19 pandemic, adapting to new campus guidelines, and staying safe.
“Big Mask on Campus,” a decorate-your-own mask contest, coincided with the Crazy Food Pace Changer, a periodic special food event that breaks away from traditional menu rotations.
Students decorated their Penn-State-themed masks according to contest guidelines, vying for prizes supplied by Pepsi, including Fitbits, AirPods, Powerbeats, and other electronics. Students also enjoyed complimentary special desserts, such as sundae bars, milkshakes, and the popular Freakshake—a mega milkshake loaded with sweets.
“We wanted to offer a thank-you event for the students,” says Alison Bonsell, regional director of Housing and Food Services, commonwealth campuses. “This was a great opportunity to get together—albeit socially distanced—to let the students know how much we appreciate them and to have some fun. It was a bright spot during a difficult semester, and we were so glad everyone enjoyed it!”
For the fall semester, Penn State launched an integrated “Mask Up or Pack Up” campaign to remind students, faculty, and staff at all campuses of the importance of doing their part to limit the spread of COVID-19.
